Monday July 17th 1854
We have been hauling in wheat. Kenny & I made a nots out of ???.
It rained hard this afternoon just before the rain the wind blew all
the caps off the shack.

Nice day I was engaged at opening & framing the wheat stacks. We
are hauling in the barn during the afternoon.

Wednesday July 19 1854
I assisted in the building a hay stack to day Father gave me $5.00.
rained a few drops. The crew was a farce in Woodstock. Very warm today.
Thursday July 20th 1854
Finished the risk about 7. Put half a load in Lem’s stable ???
??? ?? event ??? for Matilda, Cousin David, Wallen, Annie & Aunt
Betsy, came at 10 at mom I stopped work Ethan, Dave & I ??? in the
very warm rained a little. Annie, Better, I and went others.

Friday July 21 1854
Cousin David and myself went over to Charles Monis was introduced to
Miss Hullbech of Stanton. We saw Miss Annie I purchased 5 lemons 20
cents a/bottle of hair daep 25 cents. After dinner we drank lemonade
then went to Lemark. About dusk returned last night I slept in the passage.

LS Saturday July 23, 1854
??? ??? ??? left for home. Matilda and the children came last night.
I brought her down from Lem’s in Dave’s carriage.
A warm day spent the afternoon writing. LS One to Bob Dickinson the
other to C. Dickinson_purchased some ??? cloth for a cost 3 and 1/2
_ 6yd I was in the water.

A warm day was to hear rev. Leline purchased ??? mouse and bird was
to miss ??? full all day _ I spent a few hours in ??? ladies today

Monday July 24
Ethan Allen and mother Matilda started for home Laporte
[Piece missing from middle of paper] purchased a lucky and filled as
on my room door _ rained very hard tonight _ Rias came home with the
machine from ??? Palen of Washington City.
Tuesday July 25, 1854
I was at Mr. Ripleys most of all day it rained about as hard and fast
in the afternoon as we general read about _ my room windows if ??? bridge
washed off came Lamarks down so.

Wednesday July 26, 1854
I received to papers from Carlisle was at Lem’s purchased at Sibenls
some cake and been ate spent the rest of the day at home reading and
working _ Lem and Rhea brought the cattle home in _ it commenced raining
in the evening _ I wrote a letter to Boon.

LS to Aarron Boon was at town spent the day at home reading _ was at
Lem’s in the evening.

The clouds indicate rain I left about five and a half for the spring
which place I reached about nine. I stopped at Brradfords was introduced
to Mr. John Wireman we roomed together I saw Min. Lewis and Mr. Newman.

I was called up early this morning by Milton to bid Nanny farewell she
was dying_ I was ??? by her bedside she said she was going almost gone_
she seemed perfectly happy and_ did about three ??? in the afternoon_
Min. arrived just before she breathed her last.
I was sorry to part with one who I loved so high as she was so happy
smiling to the air_ I felt sometimes I felt sick and weak today ???
rested ??? . The fruit of the ??? did worthy ??? ??? ??? .

Saturday August 5, 1854
The day is pleasant the remain were taken to Mt Jackson started about
ten arrived at four Rev Kline preached to people. Most all the people
left for home today. Mary Allen to 12 arrivals I was introduced to Miss
Lincoln. They danced tonight. Red pepper tea I take_

I was preaching at the ballroom for Miss Hoff I left for home about
4 ??? _ reached a poem about 8 saw Miss Jordan standing at the window
from limbs.
Monday August 7, 1854
I went to the market to the show. I saw John Thumb and the man without
any arm the white beard/the elephants_the monkey hoofman_ zebra camels_
tiger and lyons so.
It cost me 55 cents I had Miss
Anny in the show she was so amused I could do nothing with her_ I had
my arm around her waiste and helped her it rained hard she fell down_
I felt cold riding home_ ??? summer Lem’s.

A cold air sunny_ I feel badly. Was at work during the after noon wrote???

Wednesday August 9th, 1854
I was at town this morning. Dr. L cut my hair_ Miss Allen and cousin
Nanny ??? the afternoon Lamark is sick_ Bob McMuran laif all night with
me. I call to see Miss Trephit. She and I called to see Miss Jordan.
I constantly saw into ??? to the nice intelligent game little girl of
Lo. I found her intelligent and only 15 years old. After ten Bob and
I returned home.

I was at the engineer’s tents. I beautiful noon ??? to Mr. Bunnyfowls_
laid all night at cousin John Allen’s.

Saturday August 19, 1854
Arrived at the camp ground was introduced to the intelligent as well
as beautiful Miss Annie Sanders. I purchased a watermelon at 25 cents
and $5 note. She and Murf ate half of it I found her quite eyeable_
I have her picture on paper. I like her so well because she seems so
kind ??? I soon became aquanted_ I dinner at Humphries and suppered
came home at 10.00.

I did not go to the camp outing today as I had not a horse. Spent my
time reading in ??? .
Mrs Keller laid all night with ??? I was at Lem’s in evening

Monday August 21, 1854
I started in Lem’s ??? For the camp ground with Nanny and Matilda
at for ??? the time came off and I took the carriage to Ruby’s
shop_ and borrowed John and Allen’s carriage I came home about
6 wrote Charlie fast and at I arrived there about 8 ¼.
Rain during the camp meeting till dusk.
Tuesday August 22, 1854 wiskers
I came home this morning after selling the cattle and return in after
noon slept in Sinel Uncle Rinken Lem sat at Miss Burkes I spent some
time with Miss Sanders I hope she will not encourage me if she has already
set her affections on some other person_ if I can love her faithfully
for two years I will truly desire a women if feels the same for me that
I do for her she exchanged songs with me this evening_ I shaved
Wednesday August 23, 1854
This morning I road up to Ripley’s I got some apples Nanny adopted
sister home though I hope to call her by a more affectionate name. We
had a difficult ride drove very fast for one mile she is so very kind
and gentle. The very moment I caught her up I felt as if I would like
her_ before I started I became more aquainted_ I receive a lecture from
cousin Annie for riding away for after which I felt sorry_ I prayed
for the ??? of God ??? ??? made happy and released go I was made happy
and it continued all day.

The camp meeting closed I was there bid my cousin and sister farewell
I handed her the gold pin_ Rode Marshall and Dave came with me home.
We ran at ??? Gale’s This evening_ purchased a watermelon
My triumph there if my feeling
and affections still unseen for the one who I have so late been made
aquanted I shall inform her_ why I love her so and cannot tell_ “stribbled

David and Marshall started to Woodstock. I was around by Ripley’s

Before manh weeks have passed the trees and shrubs will be decked with
the sober tents of autumn not long after instead of walking in soft
green grass you will have so tread over frozen ground instead of gentle

I was at engineers camp James and Thomas laid all night with me_ we
road to Aunt Annie then_ the severest stone I ever saw was brought to
my observation the mind had ??? power _ we stopped at town to hear Thomas
preach ??? ??? _ was introduced to Marshall finaly Thomas went to camp
after tea.

Yesterday was the first time it has rained for a long time_ the ???
Nose laid low by the great stone in means. I have been at home all day
father went to the Edinburg Bridge I have been kept going all day. As
Lem has been at ??? wheat ??? with Penny asked VC trying the machine.
But no go she a ??? _ Miss ??? and Miss Fanny came to our house this
morning I hope to read some law today ??? 10 pages a present deal in
Harpers magazine.
I stole one bird_ two chickens
the day has been rainy with clear appearance of rain_ I do not chew
any more tobacco I promise a young lady who I truly love_ and if I can
love her devotingly for two years_ I will marry her ??? she will ???
