Elizabeth Pyles was born in Williamsport, Pa on May 23, 1913. Her parents names were Rev. Edwin Arthur Pyles (deceased) and Elizabeth Sylvania Martin. She was affiliated with the Methodist Church. She attended William Penn High School and upon graduation matriculated to Dickinson College where she earned her Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in 1934. After graduation she married Albert H. Aston. She also continued her education at Drexel University in library sciences. She became a librarian at Camp and Curtin Junior High School in Harrisburg.
