    Frieda Elaine Brown was born in New Oxford, Pa on June 24, 1913.  Her parents names were Charles Clark Brown and Vinnie Gladys Sheely.  She went to Hanover High School and lived in Waynesboro, Pa.  Upon graduation she attended Dickinson College.  During her junior year of college her family  lived in East Berlin, Pa but then they moved to Pokomoke City, Md during her senior year.  While at Dickinson, Frieda was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honors fraternity.  Upon graduation she was eligible to teach English Literature, Rhetoric, German, and Latin.  She stood 5'1" tall weighing 110 lbs at the age of twenty years old. After graduation she met and married H.E. Shortlidge and became a housewife in Drexel Hill, Pa.
