11. The first, Wilbur Morris Stine, '86, took both Ph.D. and D.Sc. in 1893, going on to a reputable career in teaching and practicing electrical engineering. The last course entry for the Ph.D. appears in the catalogue of 1894-95, specifying that the candidate must take a major (two years) and a minor (one year), the subjects offered being Assyrian, Hebrew, Latin, Greek, German, French, English, History, Philosophy and Mathematics; a minor, for resident students only, was offered in Physics and Chemistry. The D.Sc. had been abolished by the trustees, June, 1894. The catalogue of 1896-97 states that graduate work is provided only for alumni candidates for the M.A. The best-known to receive the "A.M. by examination" was Montgomery P. Sellers.
