Robert Whitman was from Binghampton, New York, where he graduated
from Central High School. He entered Dickinson with the class of
1938, but spent only his freshman year at Dickinson before transferring
to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated from Annapolis in
1939. While at the College, he became a member of Phi Delta Theta
fraternity and participated in freshman football.
Whitman lost his life on June 4, 1942, while in action as a Navy pilot during the Battle of Midway. |
